Assistant Market Manager and Events Co-ordinator

Job Description

Salary:                                   £22,000 per annum

Working Hours                  Full time (5 days in any seven with weekend work is required)

The Post

You will coordinate the marketing and events programme for Brighton Open Market working closely with the CIC Market Development sub-committee and you will assist with administration in relation to the market including servicing CIC Sub-committees as required. Your duties will include:

Events and Market co-ordination

  • Seek out potential partners, event organisers and traders who may wish to use the site to undertake events/utilise the space
  • Respond to all new enquiries to the market site relating to events and temporary stalls, referring other enquiries to team members as appropriate
  • Plan and co-ordinate all events, ensuring that the negotiated price for each one covers the related costs and contributes a surplus towards the overall income target for the year
  • Determine applications from temporary traders in line with Brighton Open Market CIC’s criteria for letting
  • Aim for the mix of temporary traders authorised to trade on a given day to enhance the permanent offer at the market
  • Manage the rota of temporary traders and ensure that the Market Manager knows who will be trading on any given day
  • Assist with management of the online booking and payment system for temporary stalls, liaising with the Market Manager as appropriate
  • To assist with the set up and take down of event space and temporary stalls as and when required
  • Market and manage the bookings for the onsite meeting room

Marketing and Press Activity

You will be required to maintain and increase the profile of Brighton Open Market working closely with the Marketing and Community Engagement sub-committee.

  • Maintaining and developing the social media accounts for Brighton Open Market
  • Co-ordinating and updating content on the Brighton Open Market website
  • Writing copy, for example for press releases and website articles and successfully placing articles and advertorial within local and regional press
  • Networking with potential users of the site (local charities / businesses / arts organisations etc.)
  • Developing specific promotional materials to assist with this work
  • Developing promotional schemes to draw more users (and members of the public) to the site

Advertising

You will be responsible for managing the advertising of activities at Brighton Open Market. You will:

  • Work with the marketing team on producing promotional material Brighton Open Market to assist with the marketing work outlined above
  • Overseeing design and production of any printed materials

Administration duties

  • Maintain the database of enquiries for permanent and temporary stalls
  • Help to establish and maintain excellent communication with market traders and tenants by dissemination of information relating to events and temporary stall activity
  • Help the team to answer general queries / provide information to market traders, tenants and visitors

 

Other responsibilities include

  • Helping to deal with emergencies when they arise.
  • Deputising in the absence of the Market Manager
  • Attending regular team, market trader / tenant meetings, and taking minutes when appropriate,
  • Other duties as required, in line with the role.
